The Wild Rumpus

Maurice Sendak died yesterday, as most of us have heard.  I watched, for the second time, his interview with Steven Colbert and then also heard an interview from last September on KPBS. Both interviews were revealing in the life of Sendak, and both showed sides of him that can be summed up by his own words, The Wild Rumpus.

Why do many women avoid conflict?

I'm confused.  My neighbor has been known to go toe-to-toe wtih people when she feels her beliefs have been challenged.  When first privy to this, I kind of admired her strength.  Granted, some of her conflicts seemed better left untended, but nonetheless, there's something to be said for standing up for yourself.

Moms, Office and Home

I’m pissed. This battle continues between stay-at-home Moms and (what I call) office Moms.  I call them office Moms because I believe all Moms work, some just don’t get paid for it.

I recently read this post online and felt some of the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Women, Money and Self-Worth

Everyone, I think, knows that money does not bring happiness, right?  We know that happiness comes from within, to put it simply, so are women as apt to get stuck in the money=happiness trap? And does this happiness with money contribute to our over-all self-worth?

Are we finally riding a new wave?

We just finished our spring break this past week.  I'm fortunate enough to spend time at my parents' beach house just south of Capitola, CA.  The first day there, I was at the beach and starring with awe (and total respect) for what was the biggest surf I'd seen in that area.  There were 20 foot waves crashing down on the sand, almost announcing with each new set, "Stand clear, there's no guarantee I won't sweep you out to sea..."

The Hunger Games leaves you hungry for more

I decided last year to adopt a new name.  No longer am I Gretchen, but partnered with my other pen name of Maximus, I am now Katniss.  You can call me Maximus Katniss. Quite powerful, no? Of course I am referring to the latest Hollywood success of The Hunger Games.
