It’s powerful. To the ancients, this was a status for a woman to ritually enter, to be mentored at, guided, taught, and then celebrated for reaching. It was called "initiation," and they held "initiation rituals."

A girl was taught by elder women what it is to be a woman, and she would have to face many fears - her worries about marrying the right man and how he would treat her, how she would fit into a role in society in which she is needed and valued, respected...

...but would be up to her to uphold and prove herself in being. She was told stories and heard rumors of how horrible it could be to marry the worng man, or to fail to take on the adult roles of women, be shunned or banished from the society, excluded from the group of those who know life as full adult members of society.

This "facing the fear" though - it did something remarkable...

...that in facing the fear and looking at themselves to discover that yes, they had survived the trial...

...what else could they fear in life, having beat the worst of their fears?

Nothing.

You see, they were then free to live the lives of ADULT WOMEN.

The kind that you've seen living so free to be themselves, say what they want, do what they want, and shamelessly, boldly succeeding.
